RAS-Gateway is a brand-new portal to centralised, clear, and accurate regulatory information, guidance and tools supporting the use of autonomous systems in the maritime, air and land domains.
The Robotics and Autonomous Systems Gateway
The Australian autonomous systems ecosystem has advanced rapidly in size and capability over the last five years. This development has been bolstered by rapid domestic and international technology development and significant Defence investment.
One of the primary obstacles to the continued growth of the autonomous systems ecosystem is lack of access to tailored regulatory standards and frameworks, clear guidance, and experienced third party surveyors and other technical experts.
Supported by funding from the Queensland Government, TAS has worked with Aginic and stakeholders across Defence, government, industry, and academia to develop the Robotics and Assurance of Systems Gateway (RAS-Gateway). Content in RAS-Gateway is drawn from TAS initiatives such as the Australian Code of Practice for Autonomous and Remotely Operated Vessels and the Autonomous Systems Body of Knowledge together with information, tools, and content created specifically for this platform.
TAS aims to facilitate the growth of the Australian autonomous systems ecosystem, driving innovation and increasingly ambitious use of autonomous technology, while keeping safety at the forefront. RAS-Gateway is a central pillar of that vision, representing an innovative and intuitive experience unmatched worldwide.

Robotics and autonomous systems in Queensland
RAS-Gateway was originally a Queensland-funded initiative, delivered by Trusted Autonomous Systems, with national and international impact.
Robotics, autonomous systems, and artificial intelligence (RAS-AI) are part of the success of Queensland’s knowledge economy, driving research and industry productivity in mining, agriculture, and cyber-physical security.
The Advance Queensland Roadmap 2022 prioritises growing knowledge economy industry and jobs; supporting competitiveness of existing industry through adoption of new technology; and growing automation and technology skill development. Fulfilling these priorities requires a support structure that guides assurance and governance of emerging tech and facilitates testing and evaluation.
Queensland has led the test and evaluation of Australia’s RAS-AI through the ReefWorks at the Australian Institute for Maritime Science, and MILTECS test range. Queensland also leads the National RAS-AI research-backed innovation through initiatives such as Trusted Autonomous Systems (TAS), Queensland AI Hub, and Queensland Defence Science Alliance as well as internationally renowned robotics research and development work by CSIRO Data 61, QUT, UQ, and robotics businesses.

Trusted Autonomous Systems
Trusted Autonomous Systems (TAS) is a Defence Cooperative Research Centre (CRC), established in late 2017 as an independent, not-for-profit company. TAS is headquartered in Brisbane but has a strong presence nationally, with personnel based in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra.
TAS mission is to accelerate the delivery of trusted autonomous systems to strengthen Australia’s security. TAS is addressing the challenges of achieving trust in autonomous systems through a research program that incorporates four inter-related themes – Assurance of autonomous systems; Meaningful human-machine teaming; Integration of autonomous systems across multiple military domains; and Autonomous systems that make moral decisions.
In collaboration with Defence, TAS has also directly engaged with a number of capability areas and has supported several government and international engagement initiatives. TAS’ work is supported by over $250M in participant funding and in-kind contributions in addition to investments of more than $50M from Commonwealth and State governments.
AAUS
| AAUS is a not for profit industry association representing organisations and individuals who are interested in the development, manufacture, operation or effect of uncrewed systems in Australia. Our representations extends across uncrewed systems in the air, land and sea domains as well as advanced air mobility.
